Tasmanian council areas

The 29 council area pages we publish for Tasmania, in alphabetical order, each linked to its own page.

The zones and Tasmanian Planning Scheme codes we hold for each council, and which codes that council never published. A report can be bought for most Tasmanian addresses in the state address register; an address whose land or zone cannot be identified is refused before payment. An address the national address file (G-NAF) does not yet hold, such as a lot or unit of a very recent subdivision, cannot be found here yet. Each page links to the free check. Kingborough is listed and is the exception worth reading: it is in none of the Tasmanian Planning Scheme layers, because it still runs the Kingborough Interim Planning Scheme 2015 while the Tasmanian Planning Commission assesses its Local Provisions Schedule.

How Tasmania's codes work, and what a section 337 certificate is: Tasmanian planning codes.

The check is free and tells you which registers cover the address before you pay anything. A report for an address in Tasmania is $9.90 including GST, paid once.

Hazard maps in each council area

The share of each council’s addresses whose lot is at least partly in the mapped area of a Tasmanian Planning Scheme hazard code, any band counted, among the addresses whose council’s Local Provisions Schedule maps that code. Each is the figure that council area’s own page leads with, and the page names the bands. These are what the planning maps show, not a risk rating, and the list is alphabetical.

Addresses, not homes: an apartment building is many addresses on one lot. Not mapped: no map covers most of the council, because its Local Provisions Schedule maps no such code, or, in Kingborough, because the planning scheme that applies there is not one these figures count, so nothing is said about it. That does not mean there is no hazard. Partly mapped: the map covers only part of the council area, so no share is given. Other classes: the map records its own classes, so no share is given. No statistics: none is shown for that council area.

What each code counts

Bushfire-prone areas: The planning scheme and the building rules also treat land within 100 m of 1 ha or more of bushfire-prone vegetation as bushfire-prone, whether or not this map shows it.

Flood-prone areas: A flood-prone area is a planning map, not a flood model: overland flow is often not in it. The code can also apply to land this map does not show, where the council has other evidence the land can flood.

Landslip hazard bands: Every band counts, Low to High. Declared landslip areas under the Mineral Resources Development Act 1995 are a separate register and are not part of this count.

Coastal inundation: Every band counts, and so does an investigation area: land where the band has not yet been set, not a band lower than Low. The code plans for sea level rise.

Coastal erosion: Every band counts, and so does an investigation area: land where the band has not yet been set, not a band lower than Low.

We do not rank councils and we do not turn this into a safety score.
